Reporting from “The Perch” – CJ 1 & 4 Sectionals

IMG_0002 It’s Championship time for Track & Field in NJ and we are at Hillsborough HS to report on the Central Jersey Gr. 1 & 4 Sectional Championships. It’s a mild day here, with a pretty steady breeze that will hit runners through the far turn.

One of the “perks” at the Hillsborough site is “The Perch”. It’s a covered, raised press box that sits next to the track near the finish line. Fine seating indeed.

We’ll be here all weekend letting you know what’s going on and bringing you pictures as well as interviews with athletes and coaches as things proceed. So, bookmark this page and keep coming  back.

The, hangs down, best race of the day was the Gr. 4 Girls 1600m event. Freehold Twp. junior Ciara Roche battled it out with the always dangerous WW-P South duo of Cristina Rancan and Dierdre Casey. The Pirate pair took the race out early and gapped the field through the 800m split. Roche battled  gamely and using her latte speed to produce a 67.21 final circuit brought it home in 4:54.61 for the win.

After the race Ciara spoke with Along the Fence and Pat Lanni of NJ Advance Media. Here is the interview:
